Loneliness Awareness Week 2026: Make Room for Connection

Monday 3 August to Sunday 9 August is Loneliness Awareness Week Australia, run by the national peak body Ending Loneliness Together. This year's theme, "Make Room for Connection," is a reminder that meaningful connection doesn't happen by accident -- it grows in the spaces we intentionally create for each other.

Feeling isolated is far more common than people think, and it's not something to feel embarrassed about. Loneliness affects both mental and physical wellbeing, which is exactly why it's a fair thing to raise with your GP or nurse -- not just something to push through alone.

A regular check-up is a good moment to mention how you've really been going, not just physically. Our GPs and nurses can talk it through with you, and where it helps, refer you on to counselling, a mental health care plan, or local community programs and support groups.

Book a check-up with Miranda Central General Practice on (02) 9526 1233, or find more resources and ideas for the week at lonelinessawarenessweek.com.au.
